Windhoek City Runners Club in Collaboration with NamibRe will host the "Ya Toivo Social Run"
The first one of its kind event will take place on 02 March 2019 at Dr. Agostinho Park (Former Ausspanplatz Municipal Park) to honour the life and times of former Namibian Liberation Struggle Icon Andimba Toivo ya Toivo. This event is a befitting tribute and recognition to honour the late ya Toivo for his ernomous contribution towards the liberation of Namibia. 02 March 2019, has been strategically chosen to coincide with the late Andimba Toivo release from Robben Island on 1 March 1984. Part of the running route will require the participants to run through Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Street in Southern Industrial, Windhoek.
Speaking during the briefing session, Mr. Frans Amakali the club PRO said this event signifies the very profound history , which we will forever be a legacy for generations to come. The late Andimba will forever be remembered as an anti-apartheid activist who served 16 years in prison. In addition to this , he will be remembered as an adamant fitness fanatic who was often seen at the gym. Through the example set by Hon. Ya Toivo, we echo the words of Robert Kennedy "physical fitness is a basic to all form of excellence and to a strong, confident nation"
